Going to Pieces

After all the excitement of the Festival of Quilts, I sort of went to pieces - with a lot of fabric that I had dyed for some project or other, but not used for some reason or other...

Hand dyed fabric, procion dyes, piecing, random piecing, quilting, quilt top

I decided on a scheme of blues/greens, teal and mauve.

First step was to cut them all into strips, sew them together, cut them into more strips, sew together. When I piece, I love adding thins slivers of gold to just lift it that little bit.

Here is the finished quilt top. It is in 2 pieces to try and ease the quilting. I am going to try out Norma Schlager's 'Divide and Conquer' method of quilting the two halves and then joining them together with a seam.

The piecing is very random. I do wish I had added more gold. I love the little gold strip structures that emerge.

Here's a closer look at the top half of the quilt. I said the piecing was random, but of course it is not an accident that there are lots of nice strips to fill with my FMQ continuous line designs!!

  2. You know I love this piece because I've commented on it before. Those little slivers of gold and silver are the perfect touch. Good luck with the quilting and thanks for the shout-out.

  10. The colors are nice, but what I love most is that I know this will be totally transformed once you start your magic stitching! Can't wait to see it.

  12. This is beautiful! I love your approach of sewing and cutting and sewing again. I haven't heard of the divide and conquer method, but it sounds like a pretty great idea.
