The size had to be A4 which was quite a change from working on bigger quilts. The set theme was 'Landscape'. I often notice that quilters can interpret themes to fit whatever they are actually working on and I have to admit that is just what I did here. You will recognise my style at once!
The first one, I called 'Beneath our Feet - the Earth's inner landscape'. It is of course a mini version of 'Strata'. I wanted to work to see if I could work with a mottled background without the quilting getting lost.
I had tried using bright yellow on the darker bits, but that did disappear. Sticking to black works quite well I think.
The second piece I entitled 'My Inner Landscape - the circles in my mind'
I used a solid blue background, but two colours of thread.

Definitely recognisable as your style! It's amazing how in the "Landscape of my Mind" the change of thread colour makes such a difference; it looks as if you're using a two-tone fabric.
ReplyDeleteExquisite, as usual!
ReplyDeleteEverytime I see your beautiful stitching and unqiue style I get more determined to learn FM!!!
ReplyDeleteLovely stitching.
ReplyDeleteThese are great, and it's always fun to have your pieces return home after a long time away.
ReplyDeleteLovely as usual, I like how you made the theme 'Landscapes' your own.
ReplyDeleteThe quilting is gorgeous. A4 seems like a great size to experiment with.
ReplyDeleteOh your FMQ is wonderful!! Could I use some of your ideas in some of my work?
ReplyDeleteOh, these are wonderful! Really grate quilting!
ReplyDeleteI would know your work anywhere now - no-one does anything quite like it. I really like the variegated background - it works well for me and the quilting still stands out.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! I love your style!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely you in them! Love to see them in real sometime!
ReplyDeleteHello Hilary,
ReplyDeleteHooray for A4 - nothing like a nice quick finish! Great quilting, totally you, and interesting to see the experiments on the mottled background and changes in thread colour.
Thank you for linking up with Free Motion Mavericks.
Love, Muv
Both are so beautiful! I'd like to say something more intelligent, but instead I'll just gush. :-)
